How to make SafeSky work with

Are you a happy PowerFLARM user?
Did you know that you can combine traffic from your PowerFLARM with traffic from SafeSky?

By making the application and the device interact, you benefit from the best of both worlds, the radio and the internet. Indeed, the traffic picked up by your device will be visible on your screens (SafeSky and/or navigation software) and shared with all SafeSky users. In return, you will have access to all of SafeSky's aggregated traffic.

A note for Android pilots

- On certain versions, the phone will inform you that the wifi hotspot does not have any internet access, and will ask you if you want to route internet traffic to the GSM network. The answer is “Yes”.
- On other versions, this ability to route traffic is simply not possible. Therefore, you need to configure your phone to use "Wifi Direct”: you can follow the “Stratux” tutorial for that: Wifi Direct and Android mobile data while connected to Stratux.

Configuration

1. SafeSky config

From SafeSky, you need to go to Preferences / Traffic Sharing.

Under the “Navigation” section, you can select your preferred navigation app, and in the “External traffic device” section you can select “PowerFLARM” from the list.

If you need to distinct traffic from SafeSky and PowerFLARM, you can enable “Highlight SafeSky traffic” which will prefix all SafeSky call-signs with “ss” in front.

2. PowerFLARM config

From “PowerFLARM", if the device was already setup and working, you don’t need to change anything. If it’s a new setup, simply follow the instructions from the manufacturer to operate it under normal conditions. The default “PowerFLARM” admin interface is reachable on http://10.10.10.10
